Prevention-Based Pediatric Dentistry Loveland

Prevention Over Intervention

“Prevention, not intervention” has always been more than a motto to us – it’s the heart of everything we do. Dr. Katie and Dr. Matthew take this same approach with their own families, aiming to avoid unnecessary treatment through compassionate education, early care, and healthy habits.

Dental Checkups & Cleanings

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit by age one – but if you missed that visit, don’t worry! We are happy to see kids at any age for their first dental cleaning and checkup. These appointments include:

  • Cleanings to remove plaque and tartar
  • Age-appropriate education that helps your child build the right habits at home
  • X-rays to detect decay and monitor growth and development

We can’t wait to celebrate their progress and help them feel proud of their growing smile!

Patient & Parent Education

Watch an Introduction to our
"Keeping Kids Cavity Free" Book!

Dr. Matthew and Dr. Katie are very dedicated to making sure that children and parents alike always feel like equal partners with us in the oral healthcare journey. A big part of this is our “Keeping Kids Cavity Free” book, which we created to showcase all kinds of valuable information about ongoing dental care, organized into different tabs for each age range. We look forward to sharing it with you!

Dental Sealants

Molars have deep grooves that love to trap food and bacteria. Thankfully, sealants are a game-changer. These clear, protective coatings act like tiny shields, covering teeth and keeping debris out of those tough-to-reach places. They’re easy to apply, BPA-free, and especially effective for kids who are at a higher risk of decay.

Cavity-Fighting Medicines

We want to support your child’s health with personalized, science-backed care that also fits your values. Dr. Katie and Dr. Matthew may recommend these medicine-based options for in-office or home use.

  • Traditional fluoride treatment that defends teeth against bacteria
  • Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to stop early decay non-invasively (ideal for anxious kids!)
  • Fluoride-free remineralizing options for parents who want alternatives
  • Prescription toothpastes for patients who are considered high-risk for cavities

Athletic Mouthguards/ Sportsguards

Active kids need active protection. Contact sports can lead to collisions, falls, and dental injuries. Our custom-fit mouthguards help shield teeth and jaws from impacts while also fitting comfortably. We’ve got their athletic smiles covered!

Bruxism/Grinding Guards

Does your child complain of jaw soreness or struggle with grinding teeth at night? Bruxism is the fancy term for teeth grinding. We can help identify signs of this condition early and provide custom guards that fit well, are easy to clean, and offer great protection.

Pediatric Airway Health

A clear airway is the anchor of a child’s overall wellness. When kids breathe well – day and night – their bodies rest better, their faces grow properly, and their smiles develop the way nature intended. Dr. Katie and Dr. Matthew take a gentle, whole-child approach to airway health, looking beyond the teeth to understand how your child sleeps, breathes, and grows.

Non-Nutritive Habits

Thumb-sucking and pacifier use are normal, self-soothing behaviors – but if they continue past age three or four, they can affect oral development. That’s why Dr. Katie and Dr. Matthew work gently with families to do the following:

  • Understand the habit’s emotional roots
  • Offer age-appropriate strategies for weaning
  • Support proper jaw growth and bite alignment

We’re here to help your child transition away from non-nutritive habits with confidence and care!
